With Pictures

Being men about town, like Howard Moon, Sam and I have little time to squander. However, putting aside precious time to work our fingers to the bone. With an almost heavenly grace and ease we create masterworks. Or, silly comics about silly things.

After finishing the inking process on the story we are currently working on, Sam scanned everything into his computer. After a bit of a discussion, we decided to add color. For the time being we'll be using color sparingly for a more impressionistic look. We both have a bit of apprehension towards using color completely.

Regardless, we'll probably try out both options. I may post pictures of both and try to get some feedback, but, ultimately, the decision is ours. I have a feeling, for each story, we'll use a different color palette and style accordingly.

So we are making real progress here.

The Clash are the best band ever.

4th of July.

So, yeah. America. Great country.

I've decided not to do a Public Enemies review. It was a really good movie, but Sam and I have come up with a few really good video ideas and I want to focus on those.

I had a great fourth. I hope you did too.

I'm really kinda drunk.

LOVE YOU READERS!

June, or why things have been so slow lately.

Actually, I wouldn't say slow, per say, but maybe you've noticed we've been posting more news stories than original content lately. The main reason being Sam and I haven't been able to do anything together for about 2 weeks now. Starting the second week of July things around here will start to pick up; this is what I'm aiming for, at least. We have a few video ideas and if I twist Sam's arm enough I think we'll post some of our comics. I don't mean the entire thing, just some samples for your consideration.

Either way, June was an impressive month for us. We are getting closer to 100 posts and I think we'll have something special planned for that... if we can think of anything.

We're becoming a real blog! HURRAY! Oh, you like us, you really like us! I just can't believe it! You like us!

I have planned a Public Enemies review when I get the time to see that movie, so look out for that.

Besides that; unless something really dire, or ridiculously awesome, comes up; this will probably be my last post until after the 4th.

Oh, I realise I should probably mention this. Yes, I have been editing the layout quite a bit lately. There are a few more things I want to do but I run the risk of looking silly. If the other Sig Bot member agree with my choices, then a drastic change can be expected. I am really happy with the look of the blog right now. If you think so, let me know. If you don't then I hate you.

Michael Jackson is dead.

And Sam is away, so today is pretty terrible.

With my partner away, I'm going to try to write a few stories in his absence. Maybe I'll actually get somewhere.

Anyways, everyone is dying, you could be next. Watch out for snakes.

*DISCLAIMER*
I thought it would be amiss if I didn't say SOMETHING about Jackson. To be honest, it kinda sucks. On the other hand, it has no real affect on me. Maybe I'll download Thriller and cry. Most likely, I won't.

Today took years off my life.

EDIT:
Yeah, I know. Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon have parted from the mortal coil with our brother Michael.

Shitty week.

Dude, get a blog.

One, that title is a line from the new video at Atop The Fourth Wall. For the lazier readers: LOVE LINKARA!
Two, Dear Leader are a really good band.
Three, I started watching Mr. Show clips again. I can't believe I used to watch that show when I was a kid (I was like 10).

I will be attending the midnight showing of Revenge of the Fallen tomorrow.. or, is it Wednesday? I've already read/heard some really nasty reviews and I wasn't a huge fan of the first one so I'm not going in with any hopes for anything good. I will review it for the blog, most likely in text form. Watch out for that.

Sam will be going to Florida for a week on Thursday, so no videos for a while. After the 4th (of July) I have a feeling we'll start churning them out more and more.

I'm about halfway through the second short story we're working on. Sam is still drawing the first. As these things go, I'm always about a step or two ahead of him. I have to say I'm really really happy (and pretentious) about what I'm writing. I think it's my best work so far.

Lastly, I've been making really subtle changes to this blog's layout. Hopefully you can't notice. If you do, thats fine. I hope you think it looks better now.

I love seals, they're fucking beautiful and cute.

Introduction From The Man Himself.

Hello internet, I'm Jonathan Drain. Don't confuse me with the one in Ireland. He's a nice guy but not me.
I'm a helping hand here for Sam and Scott. I've been on the internet for quite some time and drawing dinosaurs and robots since before then. Never really been on a blog before but I do subscribe to quite a few of them.
Regardless I'm the least experienced with comics and graphic novels here. I don't read a lot of them but I grew up with them floating around my house. I'm pretty sure I have an issue of Spider-Boy floating around.

NEWS

So the script for one of our shorts has been completed and the name (rough draft) is in the works. Our wonderful artists are TIRELESSLY working their fingers to the bone to deliver this project on time. It's a quaint little story about love, badgers, existentialism, flying, love, the evils of the the corporate world, Japanese girls, and bicycles (and badgers).

Our next story, which is (probably) going to be much longer than the the already completed story, is currently underway. Hopefully, personally speaking, this story will be about 20 pages, meaning it will be more of a legitimate short story and not a mini-short.

If you notice on your right, over there ----------->
Jon Drain has joined our team. He is, of course, a junior member and will be monitoring his performance closely. Sam and I hope that one day J. Drain will grow into his own and we can stop all the nightly lashings.

LAME: Stephen Sommers was NOT fired. He has retained final cut on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Dear lord, have you seen the promos for that thing? Looks fucking terrible.

Comic books are great!

I don't give a shit about Tetris.

But today the game turns 25 years old. That's fucking insane.

All of us here, at the SIG BOT, are very saddened by the death one Mr. David Carradine. Sam and I began listening to Loveline a while back. It's a funny show. The first night we listened to it together Carradine was on it. He was a very insightful man. Sad to see him go.

The meeting, as Sam said, went reasonably well. Personally speaking, I'm still a bit confused over things, but we're ironing that out right now. J. Drain has a very good style and Samuel and myself are full of weird/silly/funny ideas. Hopefully things work out well in the end and you, the readers, get to enjoy our odd sensibilities.

Now, y'all should head over the Sam's other blog, Damage -> MP, and check This out. A lot of time was spent making it, and I love it.

I want to work on getting more content on this site, soon. Work we are making mostly. Art, comics, and reviews. We're in a middle ground between having nothing and having something. Need to get to the other side soon.

Sinestro Corps War is pretty exciting and in the best way: It's making me seriously want to drive DEEP into the Green Lantern mythos.

Get the Unwritten # 1. It's a dollar and its pretty neat. I'm probably going to get up with that series as it goes along. At the same time, I see it causing me to write a little opinionated article about a few things in comics that annoy me.

Beep.

A few things before I go to sleep.

I've been listening to a neat little podcast called Made of Fail. If you're into anything nerdy, check them out. Also, if you're interested, listen to DumpsterTech. DT isn't really my thing, but some of you might find it interesting.

Tomorrow night Conan O'Brien takes over The Tonight Show. Maybe you could say I'm a little too excited about this, but I love Conan. I can't wait. Here's a picture of his studio. Its neat!

Tomorrow, Jon, Sam and myself are having our first meeting of the brains. Handjobs abound!

Don't read Bite Club. It's not that great.

Next up: Sinestro Corps War. Excited!

Quickness

So I pretty much suck. I haven't advanced much in my writing for a few reasons. For one, I am finding it hard to start the chapter I am currently working on. I don't know what angle to come at it and I have yet to "crack" it. Secondly, summer has more or less begun, everyone is home and I have obligations to keep up. Third, my laptop is working again (but for how long?) so I have been going through the long, depressing process and transferring files from one computer to the next and deciding what to keep and what to trash. I'm keeping backups to pretty much everything. I'm going to be smart about this this time. Finally, saddest of all, and the thing that has been taking up most of my time: David Lynch. I'm so obsessed with Twin Peaks. I can't put into words how much a nearly 20 year old show means to me right now. Also, I ended up DLing most of Throbbing Gristle's discography last night.

In other words: I've been busy. Partly for legitimate reasons, partly for bullshit, addictive personality reasons.

I have so many comics to read and have yet to get to them. I need to stop impulse buying things.

On a neutral note, I'm putting drum lessons aside for a while to trying to concentrate on things. Lets see how far that goes.

Blog update - 5/11/09

Expect a bit, if not major, slow down in posts from me. There are two reasons for this. One, I want to start writing more. A lot more. I want to get at least half-way through this comic by the end of next week. The second reason: my computer is old, on it's last legs and most likely about to epic fail soon. It happens.

However, you can expect the following:
-Sam and I will be turning an old radio into a bee
-Artwork from our work-in-progress comic
-More movie and comic review (as soon as I get out to Chris' again)
-More in-fighting between Sam and I over who will be the Green Lantern
-My continued hatred of Family Guy
-A whole bunch of surprises sure to knock your socks off

Here's your first Lil preview of our comic: A PICTURE OF THE OUTLINE!
That little preview comic for the Dawn of the Dead graphic novel came with the Ultimate Edition DVD box-set. Bought it the day it came out. Some of the best 30 bucks I ever spent.

License Plate I Saw Today and the Vomit that Followed.

Yes, it would help if I knew how to spell license.

Today I saw this:

This falls somewhere in between that uncomfortably sick feeling you get around overtly warm and fuzzy new couples and the gratification of seeing an old couple who still love each other. I'm just not sure where. By the way, I'm sorry this picture is so horribly framed. I didn't really feel like getting on my knees to take this.

This is now outside of my house:
So if anyone needs to know where I live: It's the house with the speed trap in front of it. Thank you, Town of Cohasset.

In lighter news: I was ruffling through old journals and notebooks for poetry and lyrics - I'm in a band. To my amazement I came to discover that some of my old writing was decent even memorable and catchy. Then I realised I was reading poetry that I had written and that is so totally gay.

Also, Wyatt comes back today! YAY!

Who wants to go to the comic book store tomorrow?

In Which I Am Impressed / In Which I Have No Motivation.

I've watched this video a few times now and have yet to fully wrap my head around it:
I get the Dark Knight comparisons... I guess. This feels more like the last shoot-out of Hard Boiled to me. A movie which probably inspired Heat which inspired the Dark Knight. Hey, fuck you.

I went to the beach today, which was beautiful. I regret not taking a picture or two but I didn't have my actual camera on me. On a down beat, for some weird reason a hint of sadness has followed me today. I just don't feel very up for anything. I know I should be cracking the second chapter of my comic right now but I have no drive.

I've spent most of my night reading this blog: Atop The Four Wall which is actually fucking great. Go to it. Read it.

And read Batman #686:

Listening to the Hold Steady made me feel like maybe I want to live the type of life they describe.
